The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA), responding to a recent regulatory posting looking for stakeholder comment, has asked the Government of Canada to not include Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations as well as Motor Carrier Safety Fitness Certificate Regulations Free Trade and Labour Mobility in Canada Act.
“CTA sees zero benefit of such a move; and quite frankly a lot of downsides,” said CTA President & CEO Stephen Laskowski. “We are asking the Government of Canada to not pursue this area of the initiative.”
In its response, CTA recognized the good work by Government of Canada to look at reviving and modernizing the Canadian economy by removing interprovincial trade barriers. CTA encouraged the Government of Canada to continue working on the trucking pilot designed to tackle interprovincial trade barriers and to focus on the topics/areas highlighted by CTA in its trade barrier report.
